Job seekers and employers get their own account on your website. Job seekers use it to apply for jobs, follow their applications and keep their profile up to date. This article walks through what they see, so you can help them when they ask.
Registering and signing in
- Visitors open the Register page on your website and choose whether they are a Job Seeker or an Employer.
- Everyone enters their name, email, phone, address and a password of at least 8 characters. Job seekers can also add their current job title, years of experience, a summary, a portfolio link and their desired salary. Employers must give a company name and can add a description, website, industry, company size and founding year.
- After registering they are signed in automatically and taken to their dashboard. On most sites the dashboard is at /account/jb on your website, and the account menu shows it as Job Board.
- Returning users sign in with their email and password on the Sign In page. Anyone who opens the dashboard without being signed in is sent to the sign-in page first.
Registering creates the matching profile in Careerly admin straight away, under Job Seeker Profiles or Employer Profiles. There is no approval step, and Careerly doesn't send a welcome email.
Applying for a job
- On a job page, a visitor who isn't signed in is offered Sign In or Register. Afterwards they come back to the same job to finish applying.
- A signed-in job seeker fills in a short application form, with a cover letter and when they are available to start, and submits it.
- They see a confirmation, and the application appears in Job Applications in your admin with the status Submitted.
Each job seeker can apply to a posting once. After that, the job page shows that they have already applied. Job seekers can't attach a résumé file when applying. If you need one, ask them to send it and attach it to their application in Job Applications.
The job seeker dashboard
| Section | What the job seeker sees |
|---|---|
| Summary cards | Total Applications, Under Review (applications you set to Reviewed), Shortlisted, and Profile Complete as a percentage. |
| Looking badge | Actively Looking or Not Looking, based on their profile setting. |
| My Applications tab | One row per application: the job title, employer, city, status, employment type and the date they applied, with a View Details button that opens the job. Buttons filter the list to All, Submitted, Reviewed or Shortlisted, and Load More shows older applications. |
| My Profile tab | A form to update their name, email, phone, address, current job title, years of experience, profile summary, LinkedIn and portfolio links, desired salary range, and whether they are actively looking. Save Profile updates their profile in your admin immediately. |
Job seekers only ever see their own applications. They can't withdraw an application or upload a résumé file from the dashboard. If they ask to withdraw, set the application to Withdrawn for them.
Employers
Employers can register and sign in, but the employer side of the dashboard isn't working yet. When an employer signs in, their company profile and the applications they've received don't load. Until that's fixed:
- Keep their company details up to date for them in Employer Profiles.
- Share applicant information with them yourself from Job Applications.
Employers can't post jobs from your website. You create every posting for them in Job Postings.
What you control
- Which jobs are live: only postings you set to Active appear on your website, and they drop off by themselves after their expiry date.
- What job seekers see about their applications: the status you choose in Job Applications is shown word for word in their dashboard, including Rejected. Your Employer Notes are not shown to them.
- Profiles: you can edit any job seeker or employer profile. Untick Active on an employer to hide their company page.
- Limits: if you sell membership plans, each plan can limit job postings and résumés. See Job Board: Membership Plans and Posting Quotas.
- Choices on the forms: your lookup lists (categories, industries, skills, employment types and work arrangements) feed the job filters, and your industries list feeds the employer registration form.
Good to know
- Careerly doesn't email you or your users about registrations, applications or status changes. Check the Dashboard and Job Applications regularly, and contact candidates yourself when there's news.
- If your website doesn't have a link to the sign-in page or dashboard yet, ask us to add one.
