Survey settings: opening, closing and limits

Surveys Surveys Help

Open or close a survey, schedule it, cap responses, choose how people identify themselves, and set the thank-you message.

Open the survey and stay on the Settings tab.

Status

StatusWhat visitors see
DraftThe survey is not available yet. Use this while you are building it.
OpenPeople can fill it in (within any dates and limits you set below).
ClosedNobody can respond. Visitors see your closed message.

Scheduling and limits

  • Opens / Closes — optional dates. Before the opening date and after the closing date the survey behaves as closed, even if its status is Open. Times are in UTC.
  • Max responses — the survey closes itself once it has received this many responses.
  • Closed message — what people see when the survey is closed, not open yet, or full.

Who is responding

  • Identity — Anonymous (no email asked), Email optional, or Email required.
  • One response per email — stops the same email address answering twice.
  • One response per browser cookie — stops the same browser answering twice, even anonymously.

How the survey looks

  • Layout — One page (all questions) or One question per screen, which feels more like a conversation and works well on phones.

After someone responds

  • Thank-you — the message shown after they submit.
  • Redirect URL — optional; send them to a page of your website instead (for example a “thank you” page or a coupon).

The quiz, email-digest and mailing-list options on this tab have their own articles: Quizzes and scoring and Response emails and mailing-list sign-ups.
