Promotions lets you create promo codes. A shopper types the code in the cart at checkout, or you apply it to an order yourself, and the discount comes off the order.
How to get there
Open Storefront3000 and click Promotions in the menu. The list shows each promotion's code, title, amount, start date and end date.
Create a promotion
- Click Add a Promotion.
- Fill in the fields below and click Save.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | A name for your own reference. |
| Code | What the shopper types at checkout. |
| Start Date / End Date | When the code works. Before the start date the shopper is told the code isn't active yet; after the end date, that it has expired. |
| Amount / Discount | The discount, as % (percentage off) or $ (dollars off). |
| Sale Scope | All Products, Regular Price Only (skips products already on sale) or On Sale Only. |
| Minimum Count | The discount only applies to a product when the shopper buys at least this many of it. |
| Minimum Order | The code is refused when the products in the cart add up to less than this amount. |
After the first save, a Group Codes tab appears. For now, only Exclude Items By skuCode on that tab is applied at checkout: list the SKUs that should never be discounted. The other fields on that tab are saved but don't limit the discount yet.
Apply a code to an order yourself
When you create an order, enter the code at the shipping step. On an existing order, type it in Promotion Code on the order page and click Apply. See Orders.
Current limits to plan around
- Each code works for one order. Once an order uses a code, it's marked as used and the next shopper is told it has already been used. For a public campaign, expect only the first shopper to get the discount; for individual customers, create one code each.
- Dollar amounts come off every item. A $ code takes the amount off each unit in the cart rather than once per order, so a $5 code on 3 items saves $15. Use a % code if you want the saving to scale with the order.
- Stick to % or $ in Amount / Discount. The third option in that list works like a percentage and doesn't give free shipping.
Tips
- Test a new code with a small order on your website before you announce it.
- Delete or end-date codes you no longer want used.
