Job categories are the main way visitors browse your job board, for example Nursing, Trades or Administration. Categories can have one level of subcategories under a parent.
How to get there
Open Careerly → Lookup Tables → Job Categories.
The list
Each row shows the category name. Subcategories show their parent first, for example Healthcare → Nursing, so each family stays together. Use the search box to find a category, the pencil button to edit it and the bin button to delete it.
Add a category
- Click New Category.
- Type the Category name (required).
- To make it a subcategory, pick its Parent category. Leave it on (none) for a top-level category.
- Click Save.
How parent categories work
- When a visitor filters your board by a parent category, they see postings in the parent and in all of its subcategories.
- Tag each posting with the most specific category that fits. It will still show up under the parent.
- The filter on your board only lists categories used by at least one live posting.
Rules
- Only top-level categories can be parents, so there are at most two levels.
- A category that has subcategories can't be given a parent. Move or remove its subcategories first.
- A category that has subcategories can't be deleted. Reassign or delete the subcategories first.
- Deleting is permanent. Move postings that use the category to another one first.
SEO fields
The category form also has images, Meta Keywords, Meta Description and Exclude from sitemap. They are saved with the category for when your site shows a page per category; the standard job board doesn't have separate category pages yet, so you can leave them empty.
Good to know
- This list shows only the categories you've added. Your board may also include standard categories provided by Net3000. Those appear in the posting form and your board's filters but aren't listed here and can't be edited.
- Categories are listed alphabetically; there's no manual sort order.
- Having a category is one of the items on the setup checklist on the Careerly home page.
