Membership Plans and the directory
Community Business Directory can require an Active Membership Plan that grants Business Directory before a member can create or keep listings within the plan’s quotas. You decide how many listings each member may have and whether their listings need your approval.
How each plan controls access
- In Membership Plans, check Business Directory for the plans that should allow members to list.
- Open the gear to set how many listings the plan includes (and related caps such as images per listing). If you leave the number of listings blank, the plan uses the limit from your tier rules (below).
- Members join on your public memberships page. Only an Active entitled membership that grants Business Directory counts toward posting rights and quotas.
Different plans can grant different listing limits, so a basic plan might allow one listing while a premium plan allows more. When a membership lapses, the member can no longer add new listings.
Tier rules: limits and automatic publishing
Go to Business Directory → Tier Rules to set, for each member group:
- Included listings — how many listings the group gets.
- Trust level — Require review (every new or changed listing waits in Moderation) or Auto-publish (listings go live as soon as the member saves them).
Exceptions for one member
- Business Directory → Overrides gives a single member extra listings, a different trust level, or a note for your team.
- Business Directory → Entitlements grants a member an extra listing slot, for a set number of months if you like. Use it when a member pays you for an additional listing.
What counts toward the limit
Listings that are waiting for review, published or suspended count toward a member’s limit. Rejected and archived listings do not, so archiving an old listing frees up a slot.
What members see
On their My Listings page, members see a Plan usage bar (“2 of 3 listings used”). When they reach their limit, the Add listing button is switched off and they see an Upgrade your plan button that takes them to your membership plans. Members without an active plan see See membership plans instead.
Public browse vs member area
- Visitors can still browse public listings according to your site setup.
- Creating or managing listings is for signed-in members with an entitled plan (or legacy member-type rules if your account has not fully moved to Membership Plans).
