Google requires new Google Business Profiles (Google Places / Maps listings) to complete a live video verification using a smartphone. This guide explains how to prepare and record your verification video to get approved on the first try.
Important: Must Be Recorded Live on a Smartphone
Google does not accept pre-recorded videos or gallery uploads from desktop. The entire video must be captured live and continuously through the Google Business Profile interface on your mobile device.
1. How to Start Video Verification

2. What to Capture in Your Video (The 3 Proofs)
Your video should be a single continuous take of 1 to 2 minutes (minimum 30 seconds) covering all 3 required elements without pausing or cutting:
1. Proof of Location
Show physical surroundings confirming your location:
- Nearby street signs or intersection names.
- Building / house number clearly visible (matching your registered address).
- Exterior of the building or entryway.
2. Proof of Business
Show evidence that the business operates at this location:
- Exterior signage or building directory listing.
- Printed marketing materials (business cards, brochures, flyers).
- Office interior, workstation, or branded equipment.
3. Proof of Management
Prove you have authorized access to manage the business:
- Unlocking the entry door with your physical key or badge.
- Entering an employee/management-only area.
- Logging into your point-of-sale (POS), booking system, or business workstation.
- Business registration / tax documents with matching business name and address.
3. Submitting and Review
- When finished recording, tap Stop recording.
- Review your video to ensure all 3 proofs are clearly visible and legible.
- Tap Upload video.
- Stay on the page: Keep the browser or app open and stay connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data until the upload progress bar reaches 100%.
What Happens Next?
Google typically reviews video verification submissions within 1 to 5 business days. Once approved, your business profile and edits will become publicly visible across Google Search and Google Maps.
Top Tips for Quick Approval
- Plan your route before recording: Walk your path once before hitting record (e.g. start at street sign → walk to door → unlock door → walk to desk → show business cards/system).
- Keep movement slow and steady: Pause for 2–3 seconds on signs, keys, and documents so text is sharp and readable.
- Do not include sensitive personal info: Avoid filming unrelated people, customers, payment card numbers, or confidential client records.
