Canada's market news — written in-house, syndicated to Bay Street.
A leading Canadian financial-news publisher since 1998. Baystreet.ca's in-house writers cover the trading day, and its editorial is packaged and pushed to institutional partners — Bloomberg, Dow Jones, BMO, QuoteMedia — through an automated multi-format distribution pipeline we build and run.
The challenge
Baystreet.ca is both a destination site and a content business: its editorial isn't just published on-page, it's licensed and delivered to major financial institutions in their own formats and on their own schedules. That means one article has to render on the site, generate partner-specific files, encrypt where required, and upload reliably — every time, with a full audit trail.
What we built
- Multi-partner distribution pipeline. Publishing an article generates per-partner text/HTML/XML files and uploads them over FTP/SFTP to named endpoints — Bloomberg, Dow Jones Newswires (SFTP, public-key auth), and BMO — with every upload audited.
- PGP-encrypted institutional delivery. BMO-bound files are PGP-encrypted against BMO's public key, in English and French, across six product lines — Analyst Ratings, Stocks in Play, Stocks to Watch, Foreign Market Wrap, and TSX / TSX-V new listings.
- 25+ RSS/XML feeds & re-syndication. A feed per content type (analyst ratings, stocks in play, dividends, insider trades, IPO center, crypto, and more), plus a re-syndication hub routing a single article to Yahoo, MarketWatch, CNN Money, Zacks, Barchart and ACCESSWIRE Reg-FD via per-article flags.
- NewsAnchor editorial CMS. In-house writers publish through a purpose-built admin driving ~49 article-group templates across 50+ content categories, with a scheduled cron that ingests and de-dupes external feeds.
- Analyst-ratings engine. A bespoke parser ingests free-form analyst notes and auto-classifies rating and target-price moves into Upgrade / Downgrade / Initiated / Reiterated codes — with analyst-name normalization and English ↔ French translation.
- Investor tooling & first-party analytics. QuoteMedia qMod charts, screeners, watchlists and portfolios, real-time quotes, plus a dedicated analytics warehouse capturing pageviews, click-through and IP-geolocated visitor data.
Under the hood
A mixed .NET estate: a modern .NET 10 JSON API and console apps (feed ingestion, log processing) alongside a large legacy ASP.NET Web Forms site, on EF Core 10 over SQL Server. Distribution relies on EnterpriseDT (FTP/SFTP/SSH) and BouncyCastle (PGP); newsletters run on ElasticEmail; a co-branded partner portal serves RBC Direct Investing.
Outcome
A 25-year-old publisher running as a modern content-distribution engine — original editorial that reaches Bay Street's biggest institutions in their own formats, measured by Baystreet's own analytics rather than someone else's.
